Oh geez, where do I even start? So, apparently a bunch of folks in Japan, and, well, okay, other places too, are having these wild adventures—or should I say misadventures— with their shiny new Nintendo Switch 2. I mean, picture this: you’re diving deep into the chaotic world of Cyberpunk 2077, totally absorbed, when, bam! The whole thing just goes belly-up. Crashes. Freezes. The fan sounds like it’s trying to take off like a miniature helicopter.
And it’s not just with the beefy games like Cyberpunk. Nope, even Pokémon fans are reporting their consoles turning into mini furnaces. Some player was deep in Rune Factory and casually noticed the fan was going bonkers. Maybe it’s overheating? Who knows.
But wait, here’s a twist! These hiccups are not exclusive to dock mode. Even in handheld mode, some folks said the thing was scorching. Like, too hot to hold. Ouch. I wonder if they had to juggle it like a hot potato.
Then there’s this chatter on Reddit and Facebook—a whole bunch of people sharing their own sweaty-palmed horror stories. One dude mentioned his Switch rudely announced it was overheating and just napped right in the middle of playing, uh, Zelda. Twice! Imagine the betrayal.
Nintendo, being the helpful folks they are, tossed out some solutions. And by solutions, I mean the same old advice you’d get if your toaster was throwing a tantrum. Let it cool, give it some space to breathe, make sure it’s got some decent airflow. If that fails, well, looks like it’s off to the repair shop for a little TLC.
We did our own little heat-check out of curiosity. Guess what? The thing hit a toasty 117 degrees Fahrenheit while docked. In handheld, it was still kinda warm, just not roast-your-fingers warm.
Despite it all, the Switch 2 is flying off the shelves. So fast, Nintendo’s president even had to say sorry for running out of stock. But even he couldn’t put a lid on a few bumps in the road. Rumor’s going around about Nintendo disabling accounts over some flash drive shenanigans. Wild, right?
Anyway—keeping up with this stuff? Follow Tom’s Hardware. It’s a rabbit hole worth diving into… I promise.
