Ever play Red Dead Redemption 2? Came out in 2018, if you can believe it. Folks say it’s one of Rockstar’s best. Yeah, riding around as Arthur Morgan, watching the Wild West fade away. It’s a thing, isn’t it? The story just pulls you in.
But oh, the fun isn’t just in the story. Easter eggs — those little hidden gems — they’re scattered everywhere. And some of these? They’re straight-up spooky. Paranormal encounters. Yup, apparently ghosts and ghouls like a bit of the old west too. Rockstar’s always throwing these creepy things at us, but Red Dead, man, it just nails it. They even dropped this Strange Tales of the West thing online. Weird missions that feel like they jumped out of some campfire tale. Makes you wonder, why hasn’t Rockstar just gone full supernatural?
Remember Undead Nightmare from the first game? Marston vs. zombies. Wild, right? The atmosphere’s something else. “Strange Tales of the Plague” might be the closest sequel fans get. No plans for another, apparently. But RDR2 is peppered with weird stuff. Cave hermit calling himself the devil, vampires, ghosts — you name it. Even GTA does the bizarre. Bigfoot and UFOs, anyone? Wouldn’t it be something if Rockstar did a straight-up horror game someday?
Oh, and that forgotten project, “Z”? Never happened, but it was going to be a zombie deal on some bleak Scottish island. Left in the dust, they say, too dark or whatever. But now, with everyone loving dreary horror survival stuff, Rockstar could stir the pot a bit. Mix horror with their signature humor? Could be gold. Like those films, Zombieland or Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Who knows? They might just be sitting on a blockbuster idea.
Anyway, Rockstar, if you’re listening, maybe it’s time to scare the socks off us. Just saying.
