Oh man, where do I even start with this one? Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Yeah, it’s been labeled all sorts of things. Some call it Souls-slop, which sounds like an insult, right? But others say it’s surprisingly decent. And now—wait for it—it’s been “censored.” Yup, after the latest 1.5 update. Apparently, a few fans in China weren’t thrilled with some elements, so developers decided to tweak a few things.
Anyway, so this new patch dropped, and it had a bunch of changes. A lot of them seem pretty okay, like speeding up the healing animation. Super useful if you’re an impatient person like me. And now when you’re knocked down, you can dodge out of it. Fancy, right? Plus, better i-frames. But then—hang on—there were these weird changes, too. Like, “We added dialogues to some NPCs” and “We’ll fix exhaustion animations.” What does that even mean?
Turns out, it means something kinda wild. Lance McDonald, a big fan of Souls games, starts talking about it online. Basically, you can’t kill this whole slew of historically big-deal characters anymore. Instead, they just kinda get “tired” and have a chat with you after a battle. Can you imagine? Liu Wenxiu, Liu Cheng’en, and even Emperor Chongzhen used to kick the bucket in the game, but now they’re just chillin’.
And some folks were up in arms about not being able to off the “Dragon Emperor.” People love their zombie emperors, I guess? It’s history, right? Wild. Now, thanks to this update, the “pray” gesture, taught by some Portuguese Christian character, is gone. And those Ming soldiers in Chapter 4? They don’t fight you anymore. What? I mean, where’s the fun in that?
Gets even crazier. They toned down enemy armor and boss fights, and folks on Steam and Reddit aren’t taking it lightly. Some posts apparently getting vanished from the Wuchang subreddit. Suspicious, huh? One player got so fed up, he switched to console. Said, “Long Live Wuchang 1.0.” Classic.
But hey, not everyone’s fuming. Some folks say it’s running better on PC. Is that fixing its rep on Steam? Nope. Now people are mad about censorship instead of frame crashes. Leenzee, the developer? They’re keeping quiet. Update 1.5 is on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S too. Go figure.
