Bloober Team, yeah, they’ve always been, like, the kings (or queens?) of creepy, artsy horror stuff, right? But, what if you’re more into the action side? Like, you wanna punch the monster, not just hide in a locker from it. Sounds like I just described Silent Hill 2 Remake, but that’s not what I’m talking about.
Cronos: The New Dawn — that’s their new baby. It’s for folks like me who can’t just sit shivering in fear. We want to, you know, actually fight back. And not gonna lie, I’d get distracted if I just ran all the time. Anyway — this game’s been catching eyes since it first peeked out. The way it handles combat? People thought, “Whoa, Dead Space vibes!” But turns out, it’s way more than that.
So, get this, enemies in Cronos? They’re not just lurking around waiting for you to stab them. They kinda — what’s the word — morph? Like, right when you’re smack in the middle of the fight, they go and merge with each other. It’s nuts! Makes you think twice about where you want to engage. “Do I fight here? Or there?” Decisions, decisions.
Oh, and the enemies? They’re not stupid. They’ll use dead bodies to power up. Like the latest gameplay demo showed, you gotta trick them, lead them away from the corpses. Adds this layer of, I dunno, strategy? If that makes sense.
Now, don’t think it’s all gung ho though. Bloober reminded fans there’s some old-school survival horror stuff, like dealing with the scarcity of resources. So, it’s not just hack-and-slash all day.
Some time ago — when was it? — earlier this year, we had a chat with the directors. We got into why they’ve tilted toward action this time around. Mixing horror with, well, more bang-bang. It’s a blend, for sure.
And when’s Cronos landing? Still in the dark about the exact date. But, we do know it’s dropping this fall on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Can’t wait, honestly.
