One of those weird mornings where you’re pinching yourself, thinking, “Is this for real?” But yeah, no joke—Microsoft Flight Simulator is actually dipping its wings into Jurassic World territory. I stumbled upon this oddity via PC Gamer, and it’s official! Orbx Studios has teamed up with Universal for this paid add-on. Can you imagine flying over dinosaur land? Feels like something out of a fever dream, right?
“Step into” isn’t quite right because you’ll be more about hovering above the Muertes Archipelago—yep, right off Costa Rica, right before the 2015 movie kicks off. So Orbx says you’re in for some explorations; get this, there’s a custom ferry port, a buffed-up international airport with a Jurassic-esque VIP terminal. Sounds fancy, huh? Set your calendars for a PC release between August and September. Xbox folks, it’s your turn soon after.
Oh, and for those who held on to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 through its rocky start—you’ve got patience, and it paid off. Orbx is working to make their stuff compatible with both MSFS 2020 and their rival, X-Plane 12. So hang tight!
Now, the frugal flyers might not be thrilled since this is a paid gig. No word on price yet. You’ll need that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which could be a standalone or the one through PC Game Pass. When the time comes, grab Jurassic World Archipelago from Orbx’s place or Microsoft’s own marketplace.
And Xbox folks, don’t lose hope! Once it hits, your best bet is getting it through the MSFS 2024 in-game market. No clue if that changes the cost—let’s wait till Orbx spills the beans. Good news is, you don’t need a fancy version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Standard works just fine!
Keep up with Orbx’s Discord if you’re all about the latest updates. Anyway, check their forums or stalk their FAQ page. End of August, early September, and we should know more, fingers crossed.
Speaking of wild, remember when the Halo Pelican ship landed in MSFS 2020? Not as out of the blue since Microsoft owns both, but suggest some potential for fictional add-ons in the typically realist flight sim world.
Now, I kinda dig Jurassic Park but not enough to throw money at this without knowing the price first. If it’s reasonable, maybe I’d take my joystick on a joyride through dino-land. But if it burns too big a hole in my pocket, I might just stick to cruising over familiar stomping grounds. Life, uh, needs a budget. Know what I mean?
