Huawei, man, they’re like building this monster chip place in China. Supposed to crank out their super popular Kirin and Ascend chips. It’s like, you know, one of those big moves to take on NVIDIA in AI stuff. Funny how they went from just phones to this. Anyway, they’ve got this new mega-facility popping up in Shenzhen. I read somewhere—maybe it was Financial Times?—that they’re aiming to, like, own the whole AI supply chain. Sounds fancy, right?
These spots they’re putting up, they’ll handle the 7nm production. Mostly for the Kirin and Ascend guys. And guess what? They’re right by some other big-shot Chinese foundries, like Pengxinwei and Shenzhen Pensun, if I’m getting the names right. Makes you think, is Huawei trying to create some kinda “foundry hub”? Maybe! Faster sourcing, tight-knit partnerships, the whole shebang.
Oh, saw a picture from the Financial Times… the kind you gotta see to believe. But you can imagine it looking impressive.
So, who’s footing the bill? Local government, but Huawei’s calling the shots from behind the scenes with their partners, like SiCarrier and SwaySure or something. They dish out the money and tech brains, so it’s like they’re running the show without actually running the show. Clever, huh? Keeps them ahead in the game.
Why’s this all happening? Well, ever hear of SMIC? They kinda dropped the ball on keeping up with chip demand. Apparently, Huawei’s got “millions” of people wanting their Ascend chips and SMIC just can’t keep up. So Huawei’s like, “fine, we’ll do it ourselves.” This new place could be up and running next year. I guess it’s their way of staying ahead in the chip tech marathon.
It’s wild to see where this goes. Huawei’s just going full throttle on this tech train, isn’t it?
