It was one of those days, you know, where things just take a weird turn. Anyway, Yuji Horii, who helped make this game Chrono Trigger—you’ve heard of it, right?—he’s kind of toying with the idea of a redo, a remake, whatever you wanna call it. This whole hullabaloo cropped up after he hit up a panel at some convention in Naples. Funny, right? Naples. Not exactly where I’d think gaming news would break, but there you go.
And I mean, can we talk about 2025? Chrono Trigger’s hitting the big 3-0, and fans are buzzing. It’s like everyone’s suddenly nostalgic and all over social media. Horii, the mastermind behind Dragon Quest too, said he’s started thinking about a redo after hearing fans swarm him with requests. Maybe fans got their hopes up because of all these new HD-2D revamps, like the Dragon Quest 3 one. Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? Oh, and there was a translation mix-up or something that just threw fuel on the fire.
But get this, Chrono Trigger—released on the SNES in, what, 1995—the story was this wild time-travel saga with Crono and his crew hopping through history to stop, well, everything from going kablooey. If you played it, you know what I mean, right? The soundtracks alone? Chef’s kiss. Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu—you recognize those names if JRPGs are your thing. Those tunes got stuck in your head like a broken record, in the best way.
Anyway, so there was this chitchat about Horii musing over a redo, but Square Enix hasn’t given a solid “yes” or “no.” Just hanging around in limbo. He’s got those Dragon Quest projects on the burner too—HD-2D for Dragon Quest 1 & 2, and Dragon Quest 12 is apparently still under wraps. They’re all hush-hush about it, revealing bits and pieces one moment like they’re playing hard to get. Classic.
I can just imagine if they do roll out a Chrono Trigger remake. Fans would eat it up, especially with those retro vibes making a comeback. Guess it’s all a waiting game to see if Horii and the team give the green light. Fingers crossed, maybe? Or maybe not. Who knows.
