Alright, picture this: it’s PAX East, and the room’s full of excitement, like kids in a candy store. Wizards of the Coast just brought out their new Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy mash-up. You know, the kind of event where screeches of joy hit you from all sides. And yeah, I’m one of those people who soaked up every bit of it. Can’t lie, the Chocobos totally stole my heart. Plus, the scenery cards, pulled right from those epic Final Fantasy landscapes? Gorgeous. Anyway, the whole gig was about two hours long. Pretty sure my feet went numb halfway through, but who’s clock-watching when magic’s unfolding?
So, back in February, Wizards teased us with a few cards, but now — boom — they dropped the whole deck at PAX. It’s kinda like when you’re sneakily told what’s inside a Christmas gift, but actually unwrapping it still feels like fireworks. Yeah, I got that vibe when they walked us through how these cards will actually play out in real games. Strategy overload, in the best way possible.
And get this, Yoshitaka Amano — yeah, the artist whose style looks like dreams spilled onto paper — has been brought back into the mix. The guy painted up a storm for this release. Spruced up Kefka, and trust me, it’s looking wild.
Anyway — rewind a bit, Magic’s done tie-ins with everything now, right? From the Shire to Bikini Bottom, they’re all there. But Final Fantasy? This is different. Hasbro’s big boss, Chris Cocks, mentioned that this set’s already flying off shelves like never before, even with economies having their little freakouts. April figures just prove it. Go figure, right?
But hey, hold your Chocobos, we’re not even at the finish line yet. June 13 is when it all officially launches. If you’re like me and need these cards ASAP, there’s pre-ordering, obviously. So, do that if you don’t wanna be the one left card-less. Really, it’s a no-brainer.
