Alright, so check this out—Shuhei Yoshida, who used to be a bigwig at PlayStation, spilled the beans about a VR take on this old-school game, Jumping Flash. Yeah, it was in the works, but then they axed it. Why? Who knows. Maybe they had too much on their plate.
Anyway, Yoshida, who, by the way, was like a major player at Sony until he took off earlier this year, chatted with VGC about this whole thing. He was like, “We were thinking about giving some of those forgotten game series a VR makeover.” Apparently, Jumping Flash was gonna be part of that. It’s a game from way back in ’95. Talk about a blast from the past. But yeah, they didn’t say who was handling the remake or when they hit the brakes on it. Some folks got all excited about bringing it back, but it just didn’t pan out.
But hold on, get this—a game that did make it through the hoops was Fantavision 202X. It was initially this puzzle game from 2000, and they brought it back for PlayStation VR2 and even tossed it onto Steam. Cosmo Machia worked it out, and it even has this optional VR mode. Pretty neat.
So, after Yoshida stepped away from Sony in January, he’s still been all about the PlayStation VR2 hype train. Funny thing—he once admitted he messed up on some headset predictions but still gushes over games like Synapse and Before Your Eyes. And if you saw him floating around Summer Game Fest with nDreams, he’s backing this new deal, Reach. I guess some things just stick with you—like Jumping Flash and its short-lived VR dream.
