Alright, so I heard Virtuos is laying off a bunch of people. Yeah, it’s that big co-development company. Some journalist named Gauthier Andres spilled the beans on BlueSky. He mentioned they’re chopping like 7% of their workforce. Math-wise, that’s about 300 folks. Ouch, right?
So, turns out it’s mostly happening over in Asia. Two hundred people, just like that. And then Europe’s getting hit with about 70 jobs lost. Oh, and less than ten in France. Why the specifics about France? No idea, but it stuck with me.
Virtuos said they’re doing this to keep up with, you know, partner needs and industry stuff. Apparently, games are getting super complicated. Like, next-level complex. They want to focus on big-ticket co-development things — full game engineering, artsy stuff, you name it. Sounds fancy, honestly.
Oh, and they promise they’re not just pushing folks out the door. There’s some kind of separation pay and job finding help. Plus, if you’re lucky, maybe another job within the company. Not sure how I feel about that, though.
Remember The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered? That’s them! Plus, they’ve got this new project — Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. They’ve done work on Dune: Awakening, Cyberpunk 2077, and Sea of Thieves too. Actually, that’s a pretty sweet lineup.
And Virtuos isn’t the only one shedding jobs. Microsoft just trimmed its workforce for the fourth time in a year and a half. Seems like it’s getting rough out there.
Anyway, you ever notice how the sound of rustling leaves on a windy day feels like time slipping through fingers? Yeah, no idea why that popped into my head. But that’s where we are.
