If you’ve ever found yourself squinting at the tiny screens of current handheld devices, Tencent might just have the solution you’ve been waiting for. According to Videocardz, Tencent recently unveiled a new contender in the world of portable gaming, the Sunday Dragon 3D One. Now, calling it “handheld” is a bit of a stretch—it’s more like a portable console. This powerhouse of a device boasts an Intel Lunar Lake CPU and comes with a giant 11-inch display, providing an immersive experience—if you’re up for the challenge of holding it.
Under the hood, the 3D One is equipped with the Core Ultra 7 258V, featuring four P-Cores (Lion Cove), four E-Cores (Skymont), and an Arc 140V iGPU with eight Xe2 cores. Having put Intel’s recent Lunar Lake processors through their paces, they seem to perform on par with AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) in gaming scenarios. The device also includes 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, which, while ample for modern needs, is soldered onto the CPU die and hence, non-upgradeable. Storage-wise, it sports a “high-speed” 1TB SSD, potentially upgradable if you’re keen on boosting speeds or capacity.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that the 3D One could be the flagship Lunar Lake handheld on the market, assuming it hits shelves this year. Meanwhile, MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ isn’t expected until early 2025. However, this excitement is tempered by Videocardz’s report that the 3D One remains a prototype for now. Featuring an expansive 11-inch 2560×1440 display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, this device might even double as a makeshift laptop due to its sheer size. In contrast, GPD’s upcoming Pocket 4 mini-laptops max out at 8.8 inches. Equipped with real-time eye-tracking, Tencent has unlocked a glasses-free 3D experience, optimizing select games like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite for this technology.
The 3D One’s controllers incorporate Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and two customizable buttons on the backside. These controllers detach, allowing for third-party swaps—just ensure they’re compatible with the device’s unusual size. Additionally, there’s 100W fast-charging support, although details about battery capacity are scarce.
Admittedly, the 3D One’s design is quite unconventional. Typically, handhelds are ergonomic enough for extended play without discomfort. Yet, users often crave larger screens that do justice to a game’s depth and visuals. As a prototype, the 3D One is still in the developmental stages and might see limited distribution due to its unique appeal.
