Alright, so let’s get real about Mario Kart World on the Switch 2. You know, the crazy hype around it made me dive in headfirst. So, I’ve been zooming around trying to see if it lives up to its predecessors. And I gotta say, yeah, sorta? Maybe?
So, Mario Kart hasn’t given us a new game in, like, a decade. Yeah, they went big with 24 karts clashing on these wider tracks. No more feeling claustrophobic like before, where you’re just waiting to get hit by a shell and sent spiraling into oblivion. Thank goodness, right?
Playing solo? Multiplayer? Online chaos? Yup, all those boxes are ticked. Honestly, playing with some colleagues made me feel like a racer for once. Didn’t think I’d win any matches, but I did! I mean, how rare is that? Might’ve been a fluke, but hey, I’ll take it. And the game chat—free for now—adds some spice to the mix. If you’re like me, though, you’ll probably kick things off on your own to figure out the ropes.
Oh, those classic modes are back—Grand Prix, Time Trials, yadda yadda. But the spotlight’s really on Knockout Tour. Seriously, it’s every racer’s nightmare and dream combined. Blink wrong, and you’re out. And, random tip: check your settings. "Smart Steering" is on by default. Why? No idea.
Now, I’m sure some folks are shaking their heads about Battle Mode. Seems… kinda ignored? Like, what’s up with only having Balloon Battle and Coin Runners? Just feels a bit meh right now. Crossing fingers they’ll give it the love it deserves. Anyway, here I am, rambling about Battle like it’s some lost treasure.
Oh, oh! Found this tiny map icon thingy—minuscule enough to easily miss. It’s your golden ticket to roaming. You might ask, “Why isn’t this bigger, if it’s so important?” Beats me. Feels like Nintendo’s pushing Knockout Tour more? Just speculation.
Free Roam mode—yep, it’s a thing. Just cruising around feels bizarrely calming. Who knew searching for coins could be so zen? I almost want to jump out and walk—yeah, it’d probably ruin the fun, but still.
And, those P Switch things? They’re something. Often have me clenching the controller like no tomorrow. They need a little refining, though. Maybe the updates will fix it? I hope they add a better way to track my progress on these missions. Oh, and costumes. So many! The menus could really use a facelift. Like, how many different outfits can one Mario have?
Then there’s the soundtrack, which is chef’s kiss. I’d kill to have a radio option! Imagine cruising with customizable tunes. Anyway—oh, tracks! I’m kinda torn. They’re integrated enough to be cohesive but sometimes blend together too much. The nostalgia’s there, sure, but fresh tracks could enhance the mix. DK Spaceport’s probably my fave of the new ones, though.
Old-timers will get a kick out of this nostalgic whirl, I bet. Even newcomers might find it amazing and iconic. And I’m kinda buzzed to see where they take it from here. Maybe more updates? Some good DLC? Who knows.
So, that’s my two cents after racing through Mario Kart World all these weeks. It’s an awesome ride, no doubt, but yeah, it’s missing a few nuts and bolts. Hoping they’ll tighten it up with future stuff. You know I’ll be first in line to see where this kart goes next.
