Whoa, middle of the week and bam! We get this bombshell – Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is kicking off pre-production. Yep, CD Projekt let that cat out of the bag. Gone is the secretive aura of ‘Project Orion,’ now it’s just Cyberpunk 2. Not that exciting name-wise, but hey, it means business.
They dropped this tidbit during their latest money talk session. Someone tossed a confetti grenade at the Cyberpunk 2 geeks for hitting this checkpoint. Meanwhile, CD Projekt’s gearing up to unleash the first game on Nintendo Switch 2. Kind of wild seeing all this stuff come together.
Oh, and there’s something about cookies I don’t get – does anyone ever really read those messages? Anyway, back to the point.
A few weeks back, the CD Projekt Red wizards wrapped up what they called the “conceptual phase” for the next big thing in the Cyberpunk cosmos. So now, Cyberpunk 2 (kinda almost called Project Orion but not anymore, I guess) is in pre-production. Hope they’ve got rocket fuel for this one.
Skimmed over the whole presentation thing, and wow – so, as of April 30, 96 devs are tinkering away on Cyberpunk 2. Jump from 84 in February is nice, but compared to the ginormous army of 422 folks sweating over Witcher 4? Yeah, peanuts. Oh, and there’s a crew of 131 in the “shared services” pool doing all sorts of behind-the-scenes magic.
Meanwhile, guess what? Phantom Liberty expansion’s hit 10 million sales, and Witcher 3 rolls in at a whopping 60 million. It’s like everyone’s dunking on Dogtown or doing the monster mash with Geralt. Those games got staying power, man.
Now, the question is, will CD Projekt keep the plain ‘Cyberpunk 2’ name? Or will they jazz it up with a year like 2077? Only time will tell. Mike Pondsmith, the TTRPG legend, whispers that we’re plunging into a city that’s like Chicago, but, you know, all messed up and stuff. Sounds pretty wild!
