OMG, so guess what’s back and cooler? Yeah, “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” in this spiffy remastered version, and surprise, surprise—it’s on PC and consoles. Imagine that old RPG fave from 2006 looking all shiny and new. And, of course, VR folks just couldn’t play it cool; they’re diving right in. It’s almost hilarious how fast they jumped on it.
Anyway—wait, I need to explain why this remaster is kinda wild. So, they tossed out the old Gamebryo engine. Goodbye! Now it’s rolling with Unreal Engine 5. What does that mean? Well, textures and characters and stuff look crazy good. It’s like everything got a facelift (in a good way!). Plus, it’s basically modders’ new playground, thanks to this thing called Praydog’s UEVR plugin. Dunno why, but the name makes me think of some sci-fi gadget.
And get this, UEVR is like a big toolbox for VR game tweaks. We’re talking 6DOF head movement—whatever that means (something about moving in cool ways, I guess?)—and full stereoscopic 3D. But hold your horses! You gotta fiddle with settings to make it all smooth. It’s like tuning a guitar, which… I’m not great at. But props to some YouTuber, LunchAndVR, who’s all over it. Major dedication right there.
If you wanna see this whole VR thing in action, LunchAndVR’s got some footage. Early days still, but they’re showing off running around dungeons with freaky lighting that’s both spooky and kinda mesmerizing. It reminds me of that time I got lost in a haunted corn maze—unexpectedly awesome and terrifying.
Oh, speaking of techy stuff, you might drool over the rig used here. It’s beefy, like, “better have deep pockets” beefy. Picture this: medium graphics (keepin’ it chill with DLSS), Quest 3 headset, and Virtual Desktop set on ‘Ultra’. If you’re not techy, just know it’s like driving a sports car.
And yes, for the brave souls ready to jump into VR Oblivion now, some test profiles are floating around. Thank LunchAndVR for sharing those. Interesting ones to try: a 6DOF profile from someone named Keyser for better performance tweaks, and a 3DOF by Pande4360. Google Drive’s got ‘em, apparently.
BTW, don’t forget, you need a legit copy of Oblivion Remastered on PC. Works with Steam or Xbox’s PC Game Pass. So, yeah, get ready for some nostalgic yet modern escapades. Isn’t tech amazing? Or maybe just daunting. Can’t decide.
